Hamid Mir

Hamid Mir is basically Pakistani journalist. He is also news anchor and security analyst. On Geo TV he currently hosts Political talk shows and Capital talk and writes columns for the urdu news papers. He was twice times banned by the Pervez Musharraf's Government in 2007 from Pakistani Television. He was also banned by in June 2008 by Zardari Administration.
He was born in Lahore on 23 July1966, Pakistan. He is Pakistani by nationality.
He completed his Secondary education from University Laboratory School New Campus and Government Central Model School Lahore. From Government college of Science he received is intermediate degree and from Government College he received his B.A (Bachelor of Arts) degree. He is Masters in Mass Communication from University of Lahore in 1989. He became Editor of National Daily at the age of 30.

Hamid Mir belongs to Journalist and Literary family. He is Punjabi. His grandfather Mir Abdul Aziz was a Persian, Punjabi and Urdu language poet from Sialkot. His father professor Waris Mir was columnist in daily Jung and a critic of Military dictator General Ziaul Haq, so he removed from the chairmanship of the Mass Communication department of the University in 1980.
He played cricket and leave the cricket after the death of his father.
After partition according to his mother lost her whole family during migration from Jammu to Pakistan in 1947. Rioters killed her brother in front of her eyes.
Mir’s mother was kidnapped. The mother saved her life by hiding under the dead bodies of her relatives.

At the age of 48, Mir’s father was died under mysterious circumstances. It has been claimed that his father his father was poised by military regime. After the death of his father, Mir’s immediately entered in the field of journalism.  Hamid Mir has three brothers two brothers Amir Mir and Imran Mir were also journalist. His wife worked many years for Pakitani and Private Television. Mir’s have two children. Because of security reason Mir’s family were force to spend three months outside Pakistan from May-Jul 2007.

In Karachi on 19 April 2014 he was injured by gun attacked. On the way to Geo office Karachi he was thrice shot attacked by unknown person.  He went to the hospital, treatment begin and declared out of danger. He was also faced a previous attacked in November 2012, and an explosive was placed in his car after that the bomb was defused by bomb squad.

Awards and Work:
He was awarded by Hilal-e-Imtiaz on 14 Aug 2012 by PPP Government under President Zardari for his services in Journalism. He earned award for best columnist for years 1996-1998 an (All Pakistan News Paper Society.
In March 2005, he was awarded by trust for Media studies in Jodhpur, India as Maharishi Samman award for excellence in the journalism. He was also awarded by the Government of Pakistan for women’s rights Fatima Jinnah gold medal from Ministry of Women development.
He also interviewed with Osama Bin Laden for the Daily Pakistan In 1977, in 1998 for the Daily Ausaf, and in 2001 for the Daily Dawn. It was the first interview after 9/11 by any journalist, and declared by the BBC and CNN by the scoop international. That interview announce by the Monthly Herald as the scoop of the year in its annual issue of December 2001. On 26 March 2010, He was awarded Lifetime Achievement Award 2010 by the foundation of South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation Writers and Literature and nominated for the SAARC.
He has received many Death Threats In the December 2011, because he hosted a TV show on Influence of ISI in Pakistan Politics.
in March 2012 Mir received The People’s Choice category award for the most favourite current affairs anchor and news channel.

A video was placed on median on 13 April 2013 showing that Mir was receiving award of Friends of Liberation War Honour by Sheikh Hasina. That video created a controversy in the Pakistan.
