5 Million 3G Connections Sold

On Monday in first ever public report on 3G and 4G, The PTA (Pakistan Telecommunication Authority) revealed that within five months of acquiring 3G Licenses the Telecommunication sector sold five million 3G high speed internet connections.

Pakistan (Zong) is dominating the overall market.
A report showed by PTA on Monday, that earlier this year four mobile companies purchased the 3G licenses auctioned on April this year.
 Total 3G connections sold by the four companies are 4.96 Million from July-14 to November-14. The highest 3G subscribers are by the China Mobile Pakistan (Zong) 1.68 Millions. Then the Mobilink have sold 1.44 Million and Telenor have sold 1.18 Million 3G connections.

On 23rd April, the only network Zong who won a 4G or LTE (Long Term Evolution License). The company added 1452 subscribers to 4G network of November 2014. Two months ago, the company started its 4G service.
The Warid started its 4G services last week but no data is available of subscribers. When the company started 3G service, the demand of 2G or GSM network subscribers were down by 2%, about 137 million in November 2014 as compared to 140 million June 2014 subscribers.

Among the five operators, Ufone has suffered the loss of 1.8 million users from July-Nov 2014, and finished with 22 million subscribers. Then Mobilink faced the loss by 319,134 subscribers during the period, although it maintained it position and have 38 million subscribers.


During the five months period, Telenor and Zong have stood 2ndand 3rdposition and maintained net position of 114,840 and 58,051subscribers. At the end of November 2014, Telenor had 36.6 million and Zong had 27 million subscribers. Warid telecom had loosed 623,037 connections during the period and stand on 5th position with 12 million subscribers.
